In 1772, German immigrant Lewis Derr bought 320 prime acres of land near the Susquehanna River where he opened a mill and an Indian trading post. When this became successful, he began plans for a town. Eighty years later, the town was so prosperous that it became the Union County seat. Mr. Derr’s town, now called Lewisburg, attracted eminent architect, Louis Palmer, who was commissioned to design an elegant, Federal Victorian-style home in 1857. The home was built on the corner of 5th & Market streets, solidifying its downtown presence  many other prominent buildings of the time.
Almost 130 years later, Innkeeper Charles North and his wife Deborah, restored the building and on March 1st, 1985, they welcomed their first guests into the Pineapple Inn. Charles, who spent his early career as the Conventions Manager at the Washington Hilton in D.C., and Deborah, who’s background is in Arts and Archeology, wanted to
The Carriage House was the original horse stable for the property. Over the years it was sold off to another local family who converted it into apartments. The Norths were fortunate enough to be contacted by the family directly when they decided to sell. The property was restored back to its original plot in 2004.
wanted to establish a bed & breakfast that was welcoming and inviting to guests both near and far. Continuing to prove successful after 31 years in the business, the Pineapple Inn was voted as the “Best Bed & Breakfast in the Susquehanna River Valley in 2015”
Though Lewisburg has seen many changes throughout the last 31 years, the Pineapple Inn has remained a proven and prominent fixture of the downtown landscape. It will continue to be a home away from home for anyone looking to visit this quaint little town in central Pennsylvania.
